Drivers in Egypt can now find out what fines are pending on a car via text message on their mobile phones.
Egypt's Investment and Development Ministry is taking advantage of the
massive diffusion of cell phones, which has cut across almost all
segments of Egyptian society.
A person only has to send an SMS to 92333 with a car's license plate
number. The driver will receive a message with the exact amount owed.
According to a ministry statement, this service will facilitate the
car-trading processes since a buyer can get an honest account of what
fines and fees are associated with the car they are considering
purchasing.
Furthermore, this service will accelerate the car license renewals
because users will be able to get the financial clearance certificate
that proves they have a zero balance on traffic violations fees.
