If you are looking for a location with phenomenal conditions, strong, reliable and predictably constant winds, yet relatively undiscovered hence unbelievably empty and cheap, but with an authentic, fun Egyptian vibe in a laid back and friendly atmosphere, then look no further… What more do you need? However there is far more to Ras Sudr than just wind and kitesurfing. It is an area abundant with cultural attractions, sites of immense historical importance, and adventure, a part of Egypt relatively untouched by tourism where the ‘real’, authentic Egypt thrives. If that is more your thing, then we can accomodate you too.
And if all you want is sunshine, relatively guaranteed for most of the year and only a short hop from the UK, then you too are in luck.
A busy day on the water...!
Ras Sudr is an enormous horse-shoe bay on the west coast of the Sinai Penninsular. Winds are funnelled up the Red Sea giving a constant, predictable, strong, cross-shore wind. The bay is fairly shallow, depending on tide, but reliably waist deep for approximately 800m from the shore, making it the perfect place for beginners to learn kitesurfing and windsurfing in safety, or for intermediates and experts alike to enjoy their sport in prime, warm-water conditions (no need for wet suits here!).

The beach itself is beautiful, an ideal place to chill out in peace and quiet on the perfect sand or using the free sun-loungers provided, safe in the knowledge that you are most definately not going to be mobbed by tourists.
A different kind of camel-toe
In fact the only thing likely to interrupt your relaxation might be the occasional passing camel! And if you tire of kitesurfing, windsurfing, kayaking, swimming, or beach volleyball, and don’t fancy strolling to the enormous, open air, lagoon swimming pool, then you can always walk 30 meters to the Surf School, have a drink and something to nibble, whilst chatting to the other kite/windsurfers chilling out at the beach bar…
So what makes Ras Sudr so special? Well, the conditions for kitesurfing and windsurfing are world class – a bay at least the size of El Yaque at Margarita Island, Venezuela, but with only maybe 12 kites and 2 windsurfers on the water on a busy day. Fabulous winds and warm, shallow water making it not only perfect for experts, but a safe and forgiving place to learn. An undiscovered resort so those who are there are very friendly (every time we have been we have come away having made several new friends), so much so that it is quite common for people to go to Ras Sudr by themselves, knowing that they will quickly blend in and have fun. Prices are rock-bottom, the equipment is brand new, instruction at the school is first rate by approved, qualified, European, multilingual instructors, and the 2 luxury apartments are exactly what you would want.
The resort itself is very westernised. Women are allowed in bikins and alcohol is served. The appartments in the resort are largely owned by Egyptians who live in Cairo and infrequently pop down to visit, or western expats who sometimes use it at the weekends, hence the largest group of people tends to be the few people using the kitesurf / windsurf school. There are a variety of activities for those not interested in kitesurfing or windsurfing (see ‘Other Activities’ page), and it is a very family friendly resort.
In short, for those who do want to play on the water it is first rate. For those interested in just chilling out and enjoying some sun in a laid-back atmosphere a mere 4 1/2 hours flight from London then again it is first rate. And for those who want to mix it up a bit and have a genuine, authentic, untouristy Egyptian experience, then again, first rate… Check out the ‘Other Activities’ page above.
